Stuart Akroyd is one of the most accomplished
contemporary glass makers of his generation.
His work is defined through dramatic use of colour and creative interpretation of natural forms. Stuart’s unique pieces are exhibited extensively throughout the United Kingdom and worldwide, sought after for permanent collections both private and public. Stuart gained a B.A. Honours Degree in Three Dimensional Design (Glass) at Sunderland Polytechnic in 1988. At the International Glass Centre, Brierley Hill, in the West Midlands he specialised in glass blowing and cold cutting techniques. This was followed by two years employment as head production maker and designer at a small studio factory in the Lake District.
In 1999 the New Glass Magazine selected one of Stuart's one-off forms in their review of the 100 best pieces of glass made in the world that year.
‘A beautiful form is better than a beautiful face; it gives a higher pleasure than statues or pictures; it is the finest of the fine arts’ - John Waldo Emerson |
